Episode 38 We're Back

Etsy Shop. Update will be on Sunday April 7, 2013 at 6 pm Eastern time Thank you so much to everyone who has bought bags, pens, and shawl pins this week. We were able to give my brother just over $400 after all the fees were taken out. We can't say thank you enough. This money will allow my brother to leave CA and move to NM to be able to stay with my mom. It will also help them to buy food and pay a couple small bills.

A New Chapter.

This is my first blog update since canceling my podcast. The plan is to blog once a week and format the post like the podcast. While I know that it is not the same as a podcast I do hope that you all will enjoy reading the blog and seeing what we are up to each week. We also plan to do giveaways from time to time as well. Please grab a cup of tea and enjoy this post.

  Around The Apple Orchard
The past few weeks have been a bit crazy around here. I got a nasty cold that lead to a sinus infection and an ear infection. As a result of the ear infection I have lost hearing in my right ear. Even after 8 days of antibiotics I still can't hear. I really need to go back to the Dr. next week, but am hesitant to as things didn't go very well for me last time. When I went almost 2 weeks ago the nurse that took my vitals and asked all the questions was not very kind. She made me feel like I was a lying, fat, and stupid. Being treated this way always puts me on edge, while I kept my cool it greatly affected my blood pressure. The nurse wanted to test me for the flu. This is a procedure that uses a very long swap used in the nose to collect a sample. I can't stand having my nose or eyes messed with. So this would have been a very very uncomfortable test for me. I refused the test politely. I simple told the nurse that these types of tests are very difficult and painful for and I would rather not be tested for the flu. I also told her that I didn't believe that I had the flu and was positive that it was and ear infection and sinus infection. I also asked her if there was any way not to do the test. If I thought that the test was needed I would have suffered through it, but since there isn't are cure for the flu and I didn't think if was the flu I saw no reason to submit to a painful for me and pointless test. Well as a result of my politely refusing this test the nurse put in my file that I refused the test(I am fine with that part) and that I was rude and abusive. I saw the file when I went to check out and pay my co-pay. Just for reference Matt was in the room with me the whole time. I learned long ago never to go the Dr. without him. He said I was not rude and most certainly not abusive. Now you can see why I am not overly excited to go back to the Dr. With all that said I will be going back, I just need to give myself a pep talk 1st. Madison also left for Raleigh this morning for a 3 day robotics competition. She is so excited. We have been watching the web stream waiting to see her team. I hope that she has a lot of fun. The house is so quiet without her. Matt and I have also started teaching Sunday School again. It has been almost a year and a half since we taught Sunday School at our old church. We are looking forward to getting to know the kids and their parents. This time we are teaching 1st - 3rd grader. Our 1st time with younger kids. We have lots of fun crafts and games planned for the kids. That will be a nice change from teaching middle school aged kids. I am also the co-leader of a 4H group here in town. My neighbor is the leader. I have no experience with 4H so this should be an interesting adventure. I don't have experience with Ducks, Chickens,& Rabbits. That is a good thing since the group is focusing on small livestock. The group is also going to allow the kids to do other projects too. So I should be of help in the sewing, foods, and cooking areas too. I look forward to seeing the group grow and getting started.
Apple also got new bows in the mail this week. She was just as excited as I was. Here are the adorable bows she got, plus her modeling her new lady bug bows.

Apple Of My Eye I would like to say thank you so very much to a couple of ladies from Ravelry that have sent me patterns in the past couple weeks. Ladies you kindness means so much to me. Judith sent me this lovely shawl by Julie Blagojevich called Carolyn's Lace It is a very pretty crocheted shawl that I look forward to making. I just have to find the perfect yarn as I don't having thing in my stash that will work. DiCat sent me a very pretty cardigan that I will be making sometime this spring or summer. She sent by the Shamrock Cardigan by Cheryl Beckrerich
In The Apple Basket
I do have one finished object to share with you all. I made Molly The Traveling Turtle by Jenna Krupar. I used the Without Borders Yarn by Cyborgs Craft Room and some Cascade yarn in a nice blue for contrast. This little turtle was entered into LemKnitCrochet's Colorful KAL.  I am so pleased with how she turned out.

Blooming Apples
I haven't done to much knitting with being sick, but I do have a knitting gone wrong story to share with you all. Or as SillyFru calls it When Knitting Attacks. I have been working on some socks using some Desert Vista Dyeworks called Happy Birthday Cupcake. I  knitted them cuff down and was planning to do a true afterthought heel. I had finished the 1st and was ready to put in the heel. I have done this type of afterthought heel before and loved it. I don't know what went wrong this time, but it was horrible and almost lead to tears being shed. I picked up my stitches and cut my yarn and started up picking the sts so that I was ready to join my yarn in and start the heel. Well it didn't work the way it should have. There was yarn everywhere and more sts than I needed. Maybe it was because I had a cold and wasn't thinking clearly. I had to rip out the whole sock. There was no saving it. I have cast them on again, but haven't gotten very far.
I am also working on the test shawl for SockBunny. I am really enjoying it. Sorry no pictures as I have to keep it secret. I also did a test knit for Boutrosbabe.  I tested her Level Up Socks. I completed the left sock. I hope to make the right sock at some point, but I have a lot of sock knitting coming up soon. I will talk more about that later. Here is my finished Level Up Sock. It was a wonderful and well written pattern.

Apple Candy
I have lots of new goodies to share with you. Here is the new Desert Vista DyeWorks yarn I got. The colors are Frosted Peeps and Opals. They are both self striping.

I also got a sweater lot of California Flamingos on the Sunshine base(sparkle) by SockBunny Studios.
Now onto the fiber. I was able to score my very 1st loop batt. The colorway is called Moody Blues. It had me written all over it. Blue is my favorite color and Moody was my maiden name. So I just had to have it. I also got my 1st shipment from the Woolgatherings Wool Adventurer Club. I get 8 ozs each month. The Feb. color is called Starry Night.

I hope that you have enjoyed this weeks blog post. I will see you all next week.
Happy Crafting and Bye For Now.

P.S. Matt will be joining in the blogging next week.

A Very Difficult Decision.

After much prayer and thought, we will no longer be recording our podcast. We continue to find it more and more difficult to find time to record with all that is going on in our lives. We feel that it is best to stop recording rather than put out a poor quality episode. We will still be on Ravelry and Plurk and we will continue to watch and support our fellow podcasters. We plan on writing weekly blog posts, updating you all on what we are knitting and what is going on in our lives. Thank you for all of your support and loving kindness. This was a hard decision and we did not take it lightly. We will also be honoring the March Apple Basket, Blanket KAL, and the Bunny, Bear, Lamb, and Duck KAL. We will draw the winners on April 1st and contact them directly. We will miss interacting with all of you. We are sorry for any inconveniences this will cause. Much Love & Hugs Sarah & Matt.
